Society and Culture: International Conference “World of Chinghiz Aitmatov: integration and the dialogue of cultures” in St. Petersburg

November 22, 2012 in the new building of the National Library of Russia (St. Petersburg), the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the CIS and the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation hold a conference “World of Chinghiz Aitmatov: integration and dialogue of cultures.”

At the conference will open two exhibitions: book-illustrative exhibition “Chinghiz Aitmatov in the holdings of the National Library of Russia” and the exhibition “The Land of Chinghiz Aitmatov” which will tell about the diversity of creative and social-political activity of the writer Chinghiz Torekulovich Aitmatov.

At the exhibition were presented the writer's books from the collections of National Library of Russia. Among the exhibits are the first publications of stories, tales, novels, and the publications, released in the first decade of the XXI century.

At the central place of the exposition is the edition of the digest of works of Chinghiz Aitmatov “The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years”, presented by the author as a gift to the 175th anniversary of the discovery of the M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin State Public Library with an autograph. A special section of the exhibition devoted to the social-political activities of Chinghiz Aitmatov. Articles of Aitmatov-publicist in the newspapers “Pravda”, “Literaturnaya Gazeta”, “Soviet Culture”, “Soviet Kyrgyzstan” on moral values, about the role of the writer in society, on the fate of mankind caused a great response among readers in the 1980s.

At the conference will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Library of Russia and the National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic.
