World history: “Reconstructions of the Mongol Imperial Culture in costumes, decorations and arms” in Stavropol
November 21, 2012 the Prozritelev and Prave State Museum-Preserve of Stavropol opens an exhibition "Reconstruction of the Mongol imperial culture in costumes, decorations and arms."
About ruthless hordes of nomadic Mongols, sweeping away everything in their path and conquering more and more territories, the world learned in the first half of the 18th century. The events of that period are known from the medieval historical written sources left to us by Ala ad-Din Juvayni, Rashid ad-Din, Ibn Batuta, etc.
Archaeological monuments enable us to imagine the culture and life of the Mongols in the 13th - 14th centuries. However, the safety of items collected by archaeologists in Mongolian cities and cemeteries, is rather fragmentary, and then these are reconstructions that come to the aid.
Reconstructing of artifacts of various epochs is quite topical today and is in constant development. These are scientific laboratories and enthusiasts which are engaged in reconstruction. Among such enthusiasts there are representatives of the Stavropol Historical Reconstruction Club "Madjar" that provided for the exhibition the reconstructed costumes, jewelry, armaments and objects of everyday life, reflecting the mentality of the Mongol imperial culture. The reconstructions displayed at the exhibition are made in accordance with archaeological materials of the Novopavlovsky burial, Madjar settlement (Stavropol Territory), the Willow Log (the border of the Rostov region), the Lighthouse Hill (Astrakhan Region), Uvek (Saratov Region), burial in the Okoshki Mount (Chita Region), Shanxi Bunchesyan Province (China) and other monuments.
Visual part of the exhibition is completed with the films "Mongol" and "Genghis Khan."
