Exhibitions abroad: “The Soviet Myth. Socialist Realism of 1932-1960” Exhibition in Netherlands

November 17, 2012 at the Museum of Drenthe (Assen, Netherlands) opened the exhibition "The Soviet Myth. Socialist Realism of 1932-1960." The exhibition features 70 paintings and sculptures from the collection of the State Russian Museum. Among them - the pictures of Alexander Deineka, Alexander Samokhvalov, Isaac Brodsky, Arcadia Plastov, Yuri Pimenov, Kazimir Malevich. One of the key works of the exhibition is a monumental (2x4 meters) canvas by Andrei Mylnikov "On Peaceful Fields" (1950), for which the author was awarded the State Prize of the USSR.

Organizers of the show emphasize that the principle of selection of paintings was not only the historical and political context, but also a high artistic level.

"The Soviet Myth" continues a series of exhibitions at the Museum of Drenthe, devoted to realistic art. Earlier, Dutch viewers could see the works of German realism of the age of GDR, and ahead there is a meeting with the masterpieces of American realism.

Exhibition "The Soviet Myth" will last until June 9, 2013.
