History and Culture: Presentation of the publication “Tale of Bygone Years” with original drawings for it in Moscow

The State Historical Museum presented a publication of the Chronicle “Tale of Bygone Years” with illustrations of the artist Myud Mechev.

The publication of the Chronicle “Tale of Bygone Years” (St. Petersburg: Vita Nova, 2012) is prepared to the 1150th anniversary of the origin of the Russian statehood. It is illustrated with works by a prominent Russian graphic and national artist of Russia Myud Mechev, published in this edition for the first time.

In the framework of the presentation an exhibition of originals drawings of the artist, on which he has been working for over 15 years, is open. Illustrations by Myud Mechev are a bright interpretation of historical material with plastic elements of ancient art.

The new book presents the translation of the earliest extant ancient chronicles, made by Dmitry Sergeyevich Likhachev, complemented with records for 1111-1117 form the Hypatian Codex, translated by O. V. Tvorogov.
