November 15-16, 2012 the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg) is held the All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference “The modern reader and the library: the choice of communicative practices”.

Themes of the conference are:

- The role and place of the library in the future information society: the humanistic and technocratic forecasts;

- Home, work, library: the concept of the "third place" in theory and practice of librarianship;

- Communication practices in library services: the structure, content, and trends;

- Modern reader: What doe he/she expect from the library?

- Professional competence of the librarian as an organizer of communication.
