Society and culture: The Inter-museum exhibition project “Prisoner of Caucasus. From Pushkin to the present days” in Moscow

The exhibition "Prisoner of the Caucasus. From Pushkin to the present day", dedicated to the 190th anniversary of the publication of the poem by A. S. Pushkin "Prisoner of the Caucasus" is held at the State Pushkin Museum in Moscow from November 7, 2012 to February 11, 2013.

The inter-museum exhibition project "Prisoner of the Caucasus" presents famous of the same name by Russian classics of A. S. Pushkin, M. Y. Lermontov and L. N.  Tolstoy created under the impression of events that occurred in the south of Russia in the period of so-called Caucasian War (1816-1864).

The exposition consists of thematic collection of rare museum and archive materials, joined together for the first time in eight museums in Russia.

The thematic section of the display shows a lot of artifacts. Along with the first lifetime editions "Prisoner of the Caucasus", viewers will see the preserved manuscripts and unique historical documents with signatures - including: the direction of Alexander I to Lieutenant General A. P. Yermolov; composed by A. P. Yermolov the Table of mountain tribes, autographs and pictures by M. Y. Lermontov, manuscripts and personal belongings of Leo Tolstoy.

The portrait gallery of the classics, the characters and the participants of the Caucasian War of XIX century complement obscure figures and photographs, including file photo of Leo Tolstoy, the pictures of the leader of the Caucasian peoples Shamil and his successors.

The exhibition includes a number of iconic paintings, watercolors, etchings and lithographs of artists of the XIX century depicting historical events, panoramas and views of cities and nature of the Caucasus, domestic scenes and folk Valais of Caucasians. Among them are the figures of E. Korneev auto lithographs of G. Gagarin, A. Orlovsky, lithographs of W. Timm, G. Beggora. Drawings and engravings by A. Kokorin, A. Gluhovtsev, F. Konstantinov and others present rich illustrative material for various modern reissues of "Prisoners of the Caucasus".

The set of the film "Prisoner of the Caucasus" (1996) presents materials from the archive of director S. Bodrov-Senior. The film frames of working moments, autographs of 'letters to his mother" by S. Bodrov Junior and O. Menshikov, film posters, which won many film awards.
