Russian culture abroad: Exhibition “Orthodoxy in Japan. To the 100th anniversary from the date of death of St. Nicholas of Japan (Kasatkin) in Moscow

November 2, 2012 at the Alexander Solzhenitsyn House of Russian Abroad opened an exhibition "Orthodoxy in Japan. To the 100th anniversary from the date of death of St. Nicholas of Japan (Kasatkin)".

Equal to the apostles Nicholas (born Ivan Kasatkin) more than 50 years of his life he gave to acquaintance of peoples of Japan with the basics of Christianity, he became the first Russian Japanologist and ethnographer.

Thanks to the zeal of St. Nicholas it have been translated into Japanese Scripture and prayer books based on seminary, school of theology, icon-painting workshop, a publication of materials on Japan for national publications.

For his scientific work on the study of fundamental problems in Japan's history archbishop there was made an honorary member of the Imperial Society of Oriental Studies, Russian and Japanese society.
