Information and society: The Komi National Library has discussed issues on long-term preservation of electronic information

October 31, 2012 in Syktyvkar on the basis of the Komi National Library was held the Interregional Scientific and Practical Seminar “"The long-term preservation of electronic information: challenges and solutions" organized by the library in conjunction with the Interregional Library Cooperation Centre (ILCC) and the Russian Committee of UNESCO "Information for All" with the support of the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Communications.

The workshop was attended by the heads of central regional research libraries of the Arkhangelsk and the Kirov regions, Chuvashia, Karelia, Mordovia and Mari El, leaders and specialists of public libraries and library systems and central libraries of universities of the Republic of Komi. The workshop was attended by members of the Presidential Library.

Workshop participants have presented an analysis of the situation in the preservation of electronic information, the global environment, the specific Russian problems in this area, and discussed examples of the most interesting developments and approaches of libraries around the world. The participants familiarized themselves with the two relevant instruments of international and Russian level - "The Moscow Declaration on the preservation of electronic information" and "Preservation of electronic information in Russia: a call to action", which succinctly structured a problem situation and formulated priorities for action to be taken in policy, education, research, economic, industry, cooperation and coordination.
