Russian museums: The Council of Europe has called the best museum in 2013
The best museum in 2013 according to the Council of Europe was the founded in 2011 the Museum of Liverpool, famous for its unusual architecture, according to the web site of the European Museum Forum.
The PACE Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Mass Media presented this award to the museum, the exposition of which is dedicated to the history of the city, for the contribution to the interaction of cultures and classes for children and adults, that promote dialogue in the society. Thus, according to organizations, the museum demonstrates an exemplary attitude to human rights.
The museum opened in July 2011, and since then it was visited by over a million people. It is the world's largest museum dedicated to the history of a country town, as well as the largest national museum of the ones that were built in the UK over the last 100 years. The collection presents six thousand exhibits that tell the story of different periods in the development of the city, which is one of the most important ports in the world, and its role in the country's history.
The Museum Prize of the Council of Europe is awarded annually since 1977 together with the European Museum Forum. As reported at the organization's web site, the winners are museums that have made a significant contribution to the promotion of European cultural heritage.
