Memory of Russia: Exhibition “Ilja Glazunov. Kulikovo Field” in Kaluga

The exhibition hall of the Kaluga Regional Art Museum hosts and exhibition “Ilja Glazunov. Kulikovo Field” which presents canvases of the famous Russian artist, dedicated to the victory of Russian warriors over the Mongol-Tatar horde.

Glazunov has been working on the cycle “Kulikovo Field” for several years, translating their vision on the basis of historical, chronicles of the life of Sergius and Moscow Prince Dmitry, studying ancient story "Zadonschina", folk tales and legends. Of course, an important thing for the artist was the visit of the Kulikovo Field as the historic site of the great battle.

The exposition of the museum presents 22 works by the master. On the paintings of this series, visitors can see the main image, symbolic figures of this event - the Moscow Prince Dmitry and abbot of the monastery of the Trinity Sergius, blessed Prince Dmitry with his army to a great victory, the warrior-monk Alexander Peresvet, engaged in battle with a hero in defense Chelubey Russian land. An unusually expressive is the image of Princess Eudoxia, wife of Dmitry Donskoy.

In the words of the artist, in a series of works "Kulikovo Field", he tended to "convey only vital credibility, truth of what is happening once again to our contemporary touch to the great past of the homeland, a new force would feel the inextricable link of time between the generations, their involvement in the events bygone eras".
