Memory of Russia: Photo project “Neman – Borodino” in honor of the 200th anniversary of the victory in the War of 1812 is presented Kaliningrad

20 December 2012

The Kaliningrad Art Gallery on December 20, 2012 opens an exhibition “Neman – Borodino”.

“Neman-Borodino” is a unique project, implemented by the Kaliningrad Union of Photographers of the Ministry of Culture of the Kaliningrad Art Gallery.  The project participants are contemporary photographers who explored the means of photography penetration of events of 200 years ago to the daily life of the present. Authors have imposed images of these events to the current reality made them more “developed” and modern.

In accordance with the objectives of the project photographers made the shooting of locals who are somehow related to the implementation of the historical event in the modern context (guides, battle re-enactors, archaeologists, conservators and citizens) as well as the preserved architecture, trees, monuments and historical landscapes. The study of reality and the search for traces of the past relating to the War of 1812 gave the opportunity for a fresh look at the history of the country.

The project received a large number of photographs, dedicated to the reconstructions of battles. But the most vivid impressions are of the works taking us back to the reality and relating to the events of those days.

The exhibition features more than 20 works of authors from Russia, Lithuania, Latvia and Belarus.
