Museums abroad: A branch of the Louvre to open in Picardy
December 4, 2012 the Louvre Museum opens the doors of its branch in northern France – in Lance in Picardy. A new building was constructed specially for this project. Here there will be exhibited about two hundred objects from the collection of the famous museum.
It is assumed that the fifth part of the exposition will be updated once a year. It will consist of three sections: Antiquity, the middle Ages, and modern art. Among others, Lance included paintings of Eugene Delacroix "Liberty Leading the People", Raphael "Saint Sebastian", works by Rubens and Goya, as well as "St. Anne" by Leonardo da Vinci. The exhibition of masterpieces in a small town seeks decentralization of cultural life in France, as well as economic aid to the province. In the first year the museum is expected to have about seven hundred thousand visitors.
