Russian culture abroad: Exhibition “Russian Christmas and New Year traditions” in Stockholm

November 30, 2012 in Stockholm, the National Museum of Ethnography has launched an exhibition and educational project of the A. S. Pushkin Museum Reserve “Mikhailovskoye” – “Russian Christmas and New Year traditions”.

The exhibition "Russian Christmas and New Year tradition" tells the story of how in Russia during centuries have been celebrated Christmas and New Year. The exhibition features traditional Russian peasant male and female costumes.

Colorful vintage costumes and national characteristics of folk festivals (the ritual of the attributes, games, and decorations) have always inspired artists of different styles. Among the exhibits are color lithographs and book illustrations.

Also exhibits, presented in the showcases, introduce with samples of Soviet Christmas decorations as well as postcards and amateur photos from family archive.
