Russian language abroad: Round table “Russian as a language of International communication in Europe” in Brussels

22 January 2013 in the Russian Center of Science and Culture in Brussels under the auspices of the Russian European parliamentary club was held the round table “Russian language as a language of International communication in Europe”, organized with the assistance of the Permanent missions of Russia to the EU and Rossotrudnichestvo mission in Belgium.

The event was attended by Russian parliamentarians, Russian-speaking Deputies of European Parliament and representatives of other structures.

The meeting was focused on the functioning of the Russian language in the European region at present and the prospects of its demand in the future; there were proposals to extend forms of mutually beneficial cooperation in the study of the Russian language and Russian culture spread abroad.

Panelists noted that in many European countries the popularity of the Russian language is again increasing, which is primarily  associated with active economic interaction and the development of tourism as well as the traditionally high interest to the culture and history of Russia. There was highlighted the need for preservation of the Russian language and the Russian culture among compatriots.

One of the main points of the event program was the project presentation of the Rossotrudnichestvo and “Eurasian dialogue” with Russia’s European parliamentary club in May 2013 of a major International online conference. To participate in it is planned to connect more than 60 foreign missions of Rossotrudnichestvo:  from Lisbon to Tokyo. Thus, there will be a kind of the world record for simultaneous communication in Russian throughout the Eurasian region. At the same time in Perm will be open the International Book Fair of Russian-language publications, there will be held readers’ conferences, thematic round tables and seminars of linguists, culture experts and historians.
