Russian culture abroad: Exhibition of ancient Russian icons from the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius in Luxembourg

The exhibition of ancient Russian icons opened in Luxembourg. For the first time on the history of Europe it presents icons of the main monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church – the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius.

The basis of the exposition is the collection of icons of St. Nicholas of the XV-XIX centuries from the Central Archaeological cabinet of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

In addition, samples of the so-called dimensional icons are presented. Images of saints - patrons of infants sized with newborn babies were traditional for Russia before. The exposition dedicated to dimensional icon, was shown with great success in Tallinn, Riga, Prague, Karlovy Vary, Paris, Berlin, Athens, London and Belgrade.

The section dedicated to dimensional icons features ancient images and works of the best painters of modern Russia, representing all of the existing schools in the country.
