Memory of Russia: Exhibition “Liberated Stavropol” to the 70th anniversary of its liberation from the Nazis

21 January 2013

January 18, 2013 in the G. N. Prozritelev and G. K. Prave Stavropol State museum reserve opened the exhibition “Liberated Stavropol”. 70 years ago, on January 21, 1943 by forces of the 347th Infantry Division of the 44th Army, the city was liberated from the Nazis. The consequences of the German occupation became the main theme, reflected at the exhibition.

The exhibition first fully presents a series of graphic works by the artist V. G. Klenov stored in the collections of the museum reserve. These works are interesting as they were made in 1943, shortly after the liberation of Stavropol from the Nazis and with documentary authenticity reflect a picture of destruction and damage, made to the city by the German occupiers.

The author of pictures is a well-known Stavropol artist Vladimir Grigorievich Klenov (1896-1986) - the founder of the Stavropol landscape school.

In 1960s Vladimir Grigorievich personally handed to the collections of the museum paintings with his unique views of the war-ravaged beloved city. In subsequent years, this collector's series was joined with the other drawings by V. G. Klenov given to the museum by Stavropol citizens.
