20 January 2013

The Velikiye Luki fortress will become a museum reserve. This was reported on 17 January 2013 at a meeting of the Organizing Committee for the celebration of the 850th anniversary of the Velikiye Luki, chaired by Russian presidential representative in the Northwest Federal District Nikolai Vinnichenko.

Director of the Archaeological Center of the Pskov region Elena Yakovleva said that the Velikiye Luki fortress was proposed not just to be a museum and beautify its territory, but to do so in the form of Regional Museum, which will include monuments of federal significance. “This year we should start the design, so that in 2014 to launch the project”, - she said.

“Undoubtedly, the fortress will be a separate section on terms of preparation for the anniversary”, - noted Nikolai Vinnichenko.
