Society and culture: Exhibition, timed to the 195th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Aivazovsky, in Rostov-on-Don

Rostov-on-Don will open the exhibition of works by Ivan Aivazovsky, timed to the 195th anniversary of the birth of the great artist.

The exposition entitled “Free element” presents several canvases of the famous seascape painter from the collection of the Regional Museum of Fine Arts. Together these works are demonstrated for the first time.

Among masterpieces of the exhibition is the famous “Moonlight night”, painted in 1843. Next to it there is a picture which is exhibited extremely rare, “The last Days of Pompeii”. A classic academic plot Aivazovsky interprets in his key masterfully depicting the sea by a giant red haze revived Vesuvius. Works in other genres are also presented, for example – a portrait of the head of Novocherkassk city Arthur Khalibyan.
