Society and Church: The Center for the study of Christian shrines is created

10 January 2013

The center for the Study of Christian shrines will be created in the Russian Orthodox University in Moscow. The announcement was declared by rector of the university Abbot Peter (Eremeev) within the first session of the research-practical conference "A multitude: Moscow under the cover of the Virgin", held at the ROU on January 8, 2013.

According to Abbot Peter, the need to create in Moscow of such a research center is long overdue - in the capital's temples there are a large number of relics associated with a particular epoch in the history of the Church; in addition, to Moscow are often brought revered icons and relics of other Local Orthodox Churches. This cultural-historical and theological analysis of the many relics and artifacts is in demand, said the rector of the ROU.

The created center is headed by Michael Arteev - Director of Center for the Study of artifacts and relics of the Voronezh State University, Candidate of Theology, and the Graduate of Theological supreme magistracy of Geneva University.
