The launched in Finland “Newspapers’ week” is designed to attract young readers and to tell about the journalists’ work.

Its organizer the Union of Daily newspapers reminds that such event is held in Suomi already in the nineteenth time. During “Newspapers’ week” journalists visit schools and other educational institutions, they organize regional competitions, different events and campaigns. These days many editions open their network archives, usually paid, and with the special password, which pupils and students get for this week, they can read articles free. “Types of prints that we offer young people vary according to the research results”, - says the official representative of the Union of daily newspapers Jonna Tolonen. The Union of newspapers says that such events are useful for the fact that young people develop the habit of regular reading through which literacy improves.

For the first time, in conjunction with the campaign to promote reading of periodicals in Finland, there is the campaign during which there will be held discussions on the rights and responsibilities associated with the presence of children in the Internet. This campaign, in addition to media representatives, also includes organizations and enterprises of public services, including those responsible for education and training.
