Memory of Russia: Exhibition “The Stalingrad relic” opens in Saint-Petersburg

February 1, 2013 at the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineers and Signal Corps (Saint-Petersburg) opens the exhibition of the one object “The Stalingrad relic”.

February 2, 2013 it is marked 70 years since the defeat by the Soviet forces of Nazis near Stalingrad. The collection stores a large number of items related to the history of the Battle of Stalingrad (guns, small arms, uniforms, documents, photographs, paintings and drawings). Among them are memorabilia that tells about great opposition on the Volga.

On the eve of the anniversary there will be open the exhibition of the one object related to the events of the end of January – early February 1943. This unique trophy of the Battle of Stalingrad is the typewriter of the German company “Adler”, on which was printed the order of Hitler’s command of the surrender.

The holdings of the museum keep a true ultimatum, signed by the Supreme Command of the Red Army, Colonel-General of Artillery N. N. Voronov and the Don Front Commander Lieutenant General K. K. Rokossovsky. The document, dated January 8, 1943, is addressed to the Commander of the trapped near Stalingrad the 6th Army the Colonel General Paulus or his deputy.

The exhibition features a copy of ultimatum of the trapped 6th Army and photographs of the events of those days.
