March 27, 2013 in Rostov-on-Don opened the exhibition, dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the House of Romanov. The exposition “Imperial collections of the Russian Museum of Ethnography” arrived to the Don capital from Saint-Petersburg. The large part of the exposition tells of such little-known side of the life of the Romanovs as the ethnographical gathering and museum work.

The exhibition is addressed to the origins of the establishment of the Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III and the formation there the Department of Ethnography, the beginning of activity of which is inextricably linked to educational and philanthropic activities of members of the House of Romanov.

The collection of the Museum of Ethnography has about 20,000 exhibits of painting presented a purposeful activity of the Romanov family to build the museum. The best of them are presented in the exhibition “Imperial collections of the Russian Museum of Ethnography” at the Rostov Regional Local Lore Museum.

One of the most valuable items is a unique seat that belonged by legend to one of the princes of Tibet. Another unique exhibit is a dish handed by the Kalmyk deputation to Alexander and Maria Feodorovna on the occasion of the coronation. The collection also presents antiques that are going to Alexander III, the acquisition for the museum, made by Nicholas II's personal funds, collections, the last of the Romanov dynasty and diplomatic gifts.
