Information technology and authority: The state policy in the field of MEDIA and the Internet have been discussed during the “government hour”

The Head of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Nikolai Nikiforov on March 27, 2013 addressed to the Federation Council with a report on “State Policy in the field of media and the legal regulation of relations in the Internet during the “government hour”.

During his speech Nikolai Nikiforov noted that modern media is one of the fastest sectors of the economy. The media-segment in the Internet industry is actively growing. Given the key role of the media industry for the modern information society public policy in this area should focus on ensuring Russia's competitiveness in the global information space.

A separate important theme of the report of Nikolai Nikiforov has become the regulation of relations in the internet. “The last year was marked by increased attention from lawmakers to the Internet and urgent issues arising in connection with its development. I would like to create a permanent pool of experts and civil society organizations to discuss such initiatives, including the involvement of created mechanisms as part of the “Open government”. At the same time, the basis of the innovation development and security of Internet space should consist of the principles of self-regulation of Internet branch, showing its efficiency at the international arena and actively developing in Russia”, - said the Minister.
