Internet resources: Google Maps are added with maps of more than 100 cities of Russia

Google Company has updated the online mapping service Google Maps, adding detailed maps of more than a hundred Russian cities. The update has been one of the biggest for the Russian segment of Google Maps since its launch, said the manager of technical programs Google Maps Michael Daychik.

Users of Google Maps are now available detailed maps of Pskov, Vladikavkaz, Tomsk and another 100 Russian cities, the total population of which is over 12 million. On the maps of the cities, there is evidence of local attractions and businesses, and users can get directions from the computer, and with smart phones based on iOS and Android. In addition, Google updated the satellite images in high resolution, covering over a million square kilometers of land in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

According to M. Daychik, Russia is a priority for the Google team to develop geoproducts. In addition to expanding the coverage of detailed maps, Google updates the maps of settlements, which were detailed earlier, including cities. “The maps of cities will have yard driveways, better navigation, information on street corners and permitted turnings will be more precise”, - said the representative of Google. In addition, users will be able to see the full-sized building.

In all the cities with detailed maps will be available the step-by-step navigation. “Under renovation it will be improved the navigation in the regions, as well as between the cities of Russia”, - said M. Daychik.

Earlier this month, Google has updated the panoramic service Street View, which, in addition to Moscow and Saint-Petersburg, was operated for almost 200 Russian cities, including Kazan, Sochi, Novosibirsk and others. According to Google, Google Maps service audience is exceeding one billion people around the world. The number of users of its mapping services in Russia Google does not disclose. According to analysts Nielsen, about 52% of smart phones owners in Russia use mapping and navigation applications.

On improving its own mapping service for the territory in Russia it is operated the main rival of Google in the Russian market - the company “Yandex”. In January of this year, “Yandex” has updated the maps of several cities of southern Russia, including Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol, Makhachkala and Sochi. In particular, the update dated for a detailed diagram of Krasnaya Polyana, where the Winter Olympics will be held in 2014.
