To the 400th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty: Exhibition “Imperial and Grand Prince Libraries” in Rostov-on-Don

March 19, 2013 the center for the work with book monuments of the Rostov region opens in the Don State Public Library (Rostov-on-Don) a cycle of exhibitions, dedicated to the 400^th anniversary of the House of Romanov.

The exhibition zone of the 1^st floor hosts the exposition “Imperial and Grand Prince Libraries”, which, through the book, tells about the intellectual atmosphere of the Romanov family.

The collections of the Don Public Library contain books from personal libraries of 11 members of the House of Romanov: Russian Emperors Alexander II and Nicholas II, sons and daughters of Nicholas I – Grand Dukes and Duchesses of Nicholas Nikolayevich (senior), Mikhail Nikolayevich and Alexandra Nikolayevna; sons of Alexander II – Paul Alexandrovich and Alexei Alexandrovich; grandson and great-grandson of Paul I – Peter Georgiyevich Oldenburgsky and Georgy Georgiyevich Mecklenburg-Strelicky; the grandson of Alexander II – Grand Prince of Boris Vladimirovich.

A special section of the exhibition is dedicated to the book collection of the daughter of Paul I, Grand Duchess of Maria Pavlovna, and the Duchess of Saxen-Weimar-Eisenach. The library contains more than 1 100 books from her personal library.

Also in the exhibition zone of the 2^nd floor are exhibited coronation albums of Russia emperors:

- the ceremonial album, dedicated to the coronation of Mikhail Feodorovich, the first tsar of the House of Romanov, printed in 1856 from the manuscript of 1673;

- the coronation album of Anna Ioannovna (1730), which according to the riches of engraved illustrations refers to one of the best examples of book art;

- coronation albums of empress Elizabeth Petrovna, emperors Alexander III, Nicholas II.

The exposition also displays anniversary editions, released to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. A special section of the exhibition is devoted to the celebration of this event on the Don.

Also the Don Electronic Library has been enriched with new collection “Romanovs on the Don”, prepared to the 400^th anniversary of the House of Romanov, which included coronation albums, books and articles from periodical editions about the visit of the Region by Don members of the Imperial family, editions of 1913 and 2013, dedicated to the anniversary dates – the 300^th anniversary and the 400^th anniversary of the House of Romanov.
