Museums of Russia: Unique exhibitions and events are prepared by the State Russian Museum in the year of its 115th anniversary

19 March 2013

March 19, 2013 it is celebrated 115 years from the day of the opening of the State Russian Museum, held in Saint-Petersburg in the presence of Emperor Nicholas II. The Museum Director Vladimir Gusev told about some events of the anniversary year.

For example, in early summer two pavilions of the guardrooms of the Mikhailovsky Castle will be open. The eastern pavilion is the children’s center, as well as the museum pedagogy and distance humanities. There will be held video conferences, seminars and internships with the directors of museums and teachers of secondary schools.

The western pavilion will be the electronic Russian Museum with a network of virtual branches of the SRM, which are now 500, and by that time they will be 120. Around the same time it is planned to open the Stroganov palace, completing the front suite with a picture gallery.

The State Russian Museum also starts the preparation to the 200th anniversary of the opening by Russian travelers of Antarctica – it is preparing to open the virtual branch at Bellingshausen station.

In April it will be open the exhibition, dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the House of Romanov. “This exhibition will become one of the main events of the current year: it closes up with the large exposition of the National Portrait Gallery of the Russian Museum, which we have recently opened, and its main section – portraits of Russian emperors. This is not just a “board of honor” – the portraits are implemented by great artists, as the Russian Museum guided not only by the estate principle, but mainly the principle of art quality.  The exhibition to the 400th anniversary of the House of Romanov will open a new section of the exposition of the Portrait Galley with a large electronic accompaniment, as each portrait – is a whole page of history with biography”, - said Vladimir Gusev.

The museum will celebrate another anniversary –135 years of the birth of Kazimir Malevich, who in December will be dedicated the exhibition “Before and after the “Square”. A series of exhibitions, dedicated to Malevich, including foreign ones, will be held in Stockholm, Paris and other cities.
