Museums abroad: The Czar Peter House in Zaandam reopened to visitors

The Dutch Zaandam on March 9, 2013 reopened its doors to visitors of the Czar Peter House, where he lived in 1697 under the name Peter Mikhailovich during his trip to Holland.

According to museum administrator Farida Guseinova, since the end of last November the historical building was at restoration.

According to the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Netherlands Roman Kolodkin, the opening of the restored House of Peter – is the important cultural event, preceded the official start of “cross” Year of Russia – the Netherlands. From his part, the lord mayor Heike Faber noted that every Russian coming to the Netherlands, aims to visit the House in Zaandam. “Due to the restoration, city authorities hope to create a comfortable touristic route and give impetus to the development of the whole territory. Very close to the house there is the famous monument to Peter woodworker, here is the “Russian quarter” with streets of Pushkin, Tolstoy”, - she said.

One of the most interesting exhibits of the Museum is a short bed, built in the wall, where Peter at his highest stature slept almost sitting. The comment of the visited there later Napoleon Bonaparte is on the stone tablet of the House: “Truly great nothing is enough”.
