World culture: Exhibition “1000 years of gold of the Incas. From the collection of Peru Museum of gold in Lima” in Moscow

March 19, 2013 at the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts (Moscow) will be open the exhibition “1000 years of gold of the Incas”.

The exhibition will feature more than eighty unique exhibits of ancient cultures of South America from the collection of the Museum of Gold in Peru, located in the city of Lima. The basis of the collection of the museum is the collection of Miguel Mujica Gallo, which represents more than 8,000 ancient artifacts in gold and silver. The beginning of the collection of Miguel Gallo was laid by the acquisition in 1935, now in the collection of the Museum of gold, whose director was the daughter of a Peruvian collector Victoria Mujica, collected monuments of different cultures of pre-Columbian South America.

Unique works of art that will be on display in the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts are made mainly of gold and silver. Precious metals, which are so many in that part of the world, were always appreciated by ancient inhabitants of the continent. Purity, color and luster of gold reflect mythological ideas of tribes of South America of the deities of the sun, according to which people are their descendants.
