9 March 2013

In Germany in Frankfurt-am-Main opened two exhibitions of Russian Orthodox icons of the XV-XVIII centuries, provided by the Andrei Rublev Central Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art. They are organized in the framework of the “cross” Year of Russia-Germany, which is held under the motto “Together we build the future”.

The Museum of icons presentd images of the saints of the Russian Orthodox Church. Among them are St. Sergius of Radonezh, the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky. Most of the exhibits are not known to the Germans, and therefore are of great interest.

According to museum director Richard Zaharuk, these exhibitions have positive effect on the development of German-Russian relations. “Russians come to Germany not only as guests - with its rich culture, the millennial history of Russian iconography reflects it as well as possible”, - he added.

After Frankfurt-am-Main the exhibition of icons will move to the Dutch Utrecht. 2013 was declared the Year of Russia in the Netherlands and Germany in such a way “will become a bridge in this multi-ethnic dialogue of cultures”, said Richard Zaharuk.
