Memorable dates of Russia: The exhibition, dedicated to the 195th anniversary of the Russian philologist and art critic Feodor Buslaev, in Pskov

30 April 2013

April 25, 2013 it is marked 195 years since the birth of Russian philologist and critic Feodor Buslaev. To this date is devoted the exhibition in the Center for Work with rare and valuable documents of the Pskov Regional Universal Scientific Library.

Feodor Ivanovich Buslaev – is the author of works in Slavic and Russian linguistics, Old Russian literature, oral culture, Old Russian Fine Arts.

The exhibition at the Centre of rare books presents doctoral thesis of F. I. Buslaev “Historical Sketches of Russian Folk Literature and Art”, published in two volumes in 1861, “The Works on history and archeology” in 3 volumes (two volumes - 1908 , the third volume - 1930), “Russian reader”, printed in Moscow Synodal Printing Office in 1917. The main role in the exposition is assigned to “Body image of the face of apocalypses by Russian manuscripts from the XVI century to the XIX”. This is the fundamental work of Feodor Ivanovich Buslaev published by the Society of Ancient Literature in two volumes in 1884 and brought him international fame. Unfortunately, in the library it is represented by only one volume.

Images from personal apocalypse are illustrations to the text of Revelation of John the Apostle. According to the “Body” of F. I. Buslaev it is extremely interesting to study and compare the works of artists and scribes of different ages.

Also on display at the Center for rare books you can learn about some lectures read by Buslaev to heir of the throne Crown Prince Nikolai Alexandrovich (son of Alexander II) on the history of Russian literature, which were published in a historical collection “The old and the new” (Book 8, 1904).
