The formation of media- and information literacy is a new course of action, to develop actively in policy and practice in the leading countries of the world. In UNESCO’s media and information literacy means a collection of plants, knowledge, skills and abilities that allow us to determine when and what information is required, where and how you can get it, how to evaluate it, organize and use in accordance with legal and ethical regulations. The concept of media and information literacy goes beyond communication and information technologies and includes critical thinking skills, comprehension and interpretation of information in a variety of professional and educational fields. Media- and Information Literacy involves the manipulation of all types of information resources - oral, written and multimedia.

At the conference for the first time in Russia will be presented results of a major international forum of experts in the field of media and information literacy, held in Moscow in the framework of Russia’s Intergovernmental Program of UNESCO “Information for Everyone” in June 2012 and culminated in the adoption of the Moscow Declaration on Media and information literacy - the document on the basis of which UNESCO and the UN Alliance of Civilizations intend to build their future work.
