To the 68th anniversary of the Great Victory: The exhibition at the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War in Moscow

April 18, 2013 at the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War on Poklonnaya Hill (Moscow) opened the art exhibition “Sim conquer!” timed to the Victory Day. It was created in conjunction with the Moscow State Art Gallery of Vassily Nesterenko.

The name of the exhibition “Sim conquer!” is associated with the Christian and military history of Russia. Translated from the Old Church Slavonic, this expression means – “With this sign conquer!". Images of saints on the battle banners of Rus people started to appear back in the XIII century.

The exposition consists of works of national artist of Russia V. Nesterenko and items from the collection of the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War. In the halls of the Art Gallery are exhibited almost two hundred works by the artist, executed in a variety of media: oil, watercolor, charcoal, red chalk, pencil, as well as monumental paintings on historical themes: “Moscow welcomes the heroes of Poltava”, “Defend Sevastopol”, “View of the Kremlin from the Old Square”, “The death of the invasion”, the sketches for his monumental paintings of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior church of the Assumption in Dmitrov, the Cathedral in Domnino.

Visitors can see the statues of national heroes of the military history of Russia from the museum collections - Alexander Nevsky, Dmitry Donskoy, Mikhail Kutuzov, and Peter Nakhimov.

The exhibition “Sim conquer!” facing the spiritual shrines of Russia reveals the continuity of artistic means of military and historical traditions of the Russian army.
