22 April 2013

The small hall of the Central exhibition hall “Manege” (Saint-Petersburg) from April 18 to May 5, 2013 presents the exhibition “Leningrad – Petersburg in analogue photograph. 1980–2000s”. This exhibition is very interesting for its multiple aspects. First, the exhibition features works by famous, recognized masters of photography of Leningrad-Petersburg. Second, the stated topic is limited to a certain period of the 1980s - early 2000s.

It is also important that all the included in the exposition photographs are made in the technique of traditional photography. The analog photography is based on the use of light-sensitive photographic materials, in which chemical processes. Since the invention of photography to the last decades of the XX century it was a common technique for obtaining images. Since the last decade of the last century, the analog photography is opposed to digital photography. It is gradually replacing, and then increasingly displacing the traditional technique of everyday life.

So, the exhibition in the Small Manege is an attempt to show Petersburg in the difficult transition period of its existence by adequate means - the works of the leading photographers of our city, in the technique of analog photography.
