State and Society: The Exhibition “From the history of State and Regional self-government of Stavropol Krai”

On April 19, 2013, in Stavropol Krai (or region) National Park (State Recreation Area) named after G. N. Prozritelev and G. K. Prave was presented the exhibition “From the History of State and Regional Self-Government of Stavropol Krai during XIX–XX Centuries”, dedicated to the Day of Self-Government that will be celebrating in Russia on April 21, 2013, for the first time. On that day in 1785 Catherine the Great promulgated a letter of grant on the cities - a law that gave rise to legislation on self-government in Russia. According to corresponding decree, new holyday is initiated “to enhance the role and importance of the institution of local government, the development of democracy and civil society in Russia”.

Among the exhibits are the documents, photos, reports, regulations, publications, and souvenirs, reflecting various edges of the self-government of different levels in the Stavropol Krai for two centuries, including urban, rural, rural municipality and the Cossack administration that existed before 1918; Soviets or council - local state authorities; the reform of local government in the course of the restructuring and the formation of the system of local self-government in Russia beginning 1990-2000-ies. Visitor’s attention could be taken by the documents on the activities of the Stavropol City shestiglasnaya [six votes] Duma (since 1808), vsesoslovnoy [all classes] Stavropol City Duma (since 1874), photographs of city views with the buildings of Soviets and top management in Stavropol Krai, Georgievsk, Pyatigorsk, Stavropol, the portraits of Town Council members.

Pre-revolutionary editions - the reports, estimates, orders of Stavropol Town Council, the various societies, guardianships and institutions of Zemstvo - are of special interest to audiences.

The exhibition employs the materials of historical and ethnographic museums of Pyatigorsk, Georgievsk, Blagodarnyi, Budennovsk, Svetlograd, and the State Archives of the Stavropol Krai.
