Information technology and science: Unique books on geology from the collection of the A. P. Karpinsky Geological Institute to be digitized
Unique books from the collections of the A. P. Karpinsky All-Russian Scientific Research Geological Institute (Saint-Petersburg) will be digitized with the help of a planetary scanner ELAR PlanScan A2VC.V, which is designed to scan stitched documents including thick spine. The scanner has the function to align the lines of the spine, which can take photos without distorting the quality and additional manual image processing.
The A. P. Karpinsky All-Russian Scientific Research Geological Institute is the successor of the Geological Committee (Geolcom), the first State Geological agency in Russia. The main task of the institute is the systematic research of the geological structure of Russia, the preparation and publication of the detailed geological map of the state.
