9 April 2013

April 9, 2013 at the Museum Preserve “The Moscow Kremlin” opens the exhibition “The art to store art. The restoration of the Moscow Kremlin Museums”.

The history of the restoration in the Moscow Kremlin Museums goes back to the XIX century. A new stage in its development relates to post-revolutionary years, when the Kremlin restoration workshop was organized, and in the staff of the museum appeared a position of a restorer. But in 1938, the post was abolished and reappeared only in 1963, when the museum opened restoration workshop. Thus, in the year of the exhibition a revived department of scientific restoration and conservation of the Moscow Kremlin Museums is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary.

To display are selected monuments, having the renovation in the last ten - fifteen years. The exhibition features ninety-five exhibits relating to different periods and styles - from the XIV to the XX century. They provide an opportunity to get acquainted with the variety of the museum’s collections, in one hall. Many of the items are related to the famous historical figures and are made by outstanding masters.

Among a variety of significant monuments of history and culture you can see exhibits that have become genuine discovery as a result of restoration.

Many of the exhibited works are stored in museums, and only at the exhibition you can learn about them. Much of the items are first presented to a wide audience. Each museum has its own unique monumental fate. A careful storage of works of art by the constant concern of the restorers and museum professionals can significantly extend their life. It would have been impossible without the professional skills and knowledge of restorers who can store art.
