
Russian regions: Events in Khabarovsk, dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture
May 30, 2013 at the Pacific State University (Khabarovsk) in the electronic reading room with access to the resources of the Presidential Library was carried out a sensitization hour dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. The event was dedicated to the great educators Cyril and Methodius - the creators of the Slavic alphabet, orthodox preachers, revered as saints. Traditionally, this day is celebrated in all Slavic countries on May 24.
The event was attended by Chinese students and teachers of the department “Russian as a foreign language” and the library specialists of the PSU.
Colorful presentation and oral presentation in Russian and Chinese versions of the life of Cyril and Methodius, on the background of the Slavic alphabet, as well as about changes which undergone the alphabet before becoming the way we teach it nowadays, has allowed international students to better know Russian culture.
The students were also presented the collection at the web site of the Presidential Library, which includes research, essays on the life and work of the creators of the Slavic alphabet. The participants were introduced to the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation on the celebration of the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. A special attention was attracted to the book by Karsky E. F. “Samples of Slavic Cyrillic letter of the X to XVIII centuries”, published in 1901, where they could see the writing samples from the year 863.
