Electronic libraries: The electronic library launched in the Republic of Altai

May 28, 2013 the M. V. Chevalkov National Library of the Republic of Altai as part of the festival “The Book of Altai” introduced the “Electronic Library of the Republic of Altai”. This is a set of bibliographic, factual and full-text electronic resources of the Altai Mountains, accessible to all categories of users over the Internet.

For the first time users got access to rare books on the history, ethnography, geography and economy of the region and periodicals (1922-1937s). The reader will have opportunity to see inaccessible books of domestic scientists, famous travelers and explorers of the Altai. The digital copies of rare collections of national newspapers – “The Oirot Krai”, “The Kyzyl Oirot” from 1922 to 1937 are now available.

The National Library of the Republic of Altai started to develop an electronic library in 2011 by the federal program. In its filling participated the largest book storages of Russia: The National Library of Russia, the Russian State Library.

Thus, the electronic library of the Republic of Altai forms a single information space of the republic as part of the historical and cultural heritage of Russia, provides rare books of the second half of the XIX-XX centuries, as well as the residents’ of the Republic of Altai access to information about the area in which they live.

The electronic library will be in demand, especially for students, graduate students and professionals of various industries, to everyone who is interested in the history of the Altai Mountains.
