Book publishing and book distribution: Russia takes part in the International Book Fair BookExpo America 2013
From May 29 to June 1, 2013 in New York City is held the International Book Fair BookExpo America 2013 (BEA-2013). The fair is organized with the support of the Association of American Publishers (AAP) and the American Booksellers Association sellers (ABA) and is the main professional forum of the American continent.
Last year, Russia for the first time was the guest of honor at BookExpo America and presented the project “Russia Read / Read Russia” - a major initiative in the history of Russian book, the purpose of which is to introduce an international readership with the modern Russian literature.
This year in New York at the Russian stand area of 60 square meters will be presented new items of the Russian book publishing in a program of Russian actions – there are presented initiatives that open up opportunities for publishers, translators and literary agents around the world. In particular, the Institute of Translation, created to support the translation and publication of Russian literature in foreign languages, will introduce visitors of the fair with the main areas of its work. A particular attention will be paid to the problems of translation and publication of works of Russian literature in the English language.
Also the Russian project “Russian Library”, in which over 10 years is expected to publish 125 volumes of the best works of Russian literature - prose, drama, poetry - in new translations into English will be presented.
The presentation of Russia’s largest literary prize “Big Book” will be devoted to such issues as the goals and objectives of modern literary awards, the future of literature and reading, the future of print and electronic books and etc.
31 May 2013 the organizers of the BEA-2013 will dedicate this day to the children’s book and children’s publishing. The national stand of Russia on this day will present the presentations of the All-Russian competition for the best work of literature for children and adolescents “Kniguru” and books from the exhibition stand, addressed to the younger generations.
On the days of the fair is also planned a series of meetings with famous Russian writers. The discussions will also be attended by leading American literary critics, translators, Slavic and other experts in the field of literature and publishing.
