History of Russia: The exhibition “XVIII century on the screen: Catherine II and Frederick II” at the Museum Reserve “Tsaritsyno”
The exhibition “XVIII century on the screen: Catherine II and Frederick II”, devoted to cinematographic images of the Russian Empress and the King of Prussia, opens at the Museum Reserve “Tsaritsyno” on May 29, 2013.
“The exhibition project is a kind of dialogue of cinema and history, and it is designed to show how the world cinema embodies the image of the XX century and the facts of life historical figures of the XVIII century - the Russian Empress Catherine II and the Prussian King Frederick II, during the life called Great”, - stated in the release to the event.
The selection for the exhibition “Tsaritsyno” is not accidental - as it is known, the palace was supposed to be the residence of Catherine II, but those plans went awry. The exhibition is organized in so-called Bread House, which was built by the project of Vasily Bazhenov to accommodate business services.
The exhibition, prepared in honor of the Year of Germany in Russia, includes more than 900 exhibits. The process of creating the film illustrates the footage and photographs of the film-making process - the directors, cameramen and actors. In addition, the exhibition displays the equipment, props, set and costume designs.
The historical part of the exhibition is presented by museum exhibits that reflect the main stages of the life and work of Catherine II and Frederick II: paintings and drawings, decorative arts, furniture, interior of the XVIII-XIX centuries.
