To the All-Russian Library Day: Events at the National Library of Russia to the 218th anniversary of its foundation

May 27, 2013 at the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg) are held events dedicated to the celebration of the Day of the All-Russian Library Day and the 218th anniversary of the founding of the Imperial Public Library.

On this day in the Main building of the NLR is held the scientific-educational project “The first Russian illustrated book - Kievan Psalter of 1397” and will be held the XXIII readings “Book rarities of the National Library of Russia”.

At 13.00 in the Korff hall will take place the solemn opening of the exhibition “A. N. Olenin - the first director of the Imperial Public Library. To the 250th anniversary of his birth”.

A fascinating exhibition tells the story of the most important periods of life and activities of Alexei Venison. Among the exhibits are the materials provided by the Department of Manuscripts of the training Venison in the Page Corps (“Book List of page for 1775”), as well as a unique edition of the Corps of Pages. Among the rarities of the exhibition - a collection of poetry of Prince Beloselsky-Belozersky published in 1774 in Kassel. The prince belonged not only to Russia but also to the European intellectual elite, and he was an example for the young Olenin.

One of the sections of the exhibition is devoted to the activities venison as director of the Imperial Public Library. Olenin’s works on the device from the archive of the NLR, books about him, and other publications are presented.

A unique addition to the exhibition is lithograph portraits of famous figures of culture and science – contemporaries of Olenin, made by Gustav Gippius (the first half of XIX century).

The exhibition will run till June 28.
