Society and culture: The exhibition “100 works by Alexander Benois” opened in Moscow

The exhibition “100 works by Alexander Benois” dedicated to one of the founders of the famous artistic association “World of Art” opened in the gallery “Our artists” (Moscow) on 25 May 2013 and will last until July 21, 2013.

The last and the only major exhibition of the artist was held 140 years ago at the State Tretyakov Gallery. 

The organizers of the exhibition tried to collect iconographic works by the artist, for example, paintings from the series “The last walks of Louis XIV”, two papers for publication by Knebel “Paintings by Russian history”, sketches for the five letters of “Alphabet in paintings by Alexandre Benois”, as well as illustrations for the “Bronze Horseman” by Pushkin. The exhibition includes designs for Diaghilev and the performances of “Le Pavillon d'Armide”, “Petrushka”, “The Nightingale” as well as rural landscapes and views of Saint-Petersburg, the Crimea, Germany, France and Italy. Many of them are on display for the first time, as they are established in the emigration and make pictorial chronicle of family life.
