To the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture: Reading Festival "The Light of the understanding of the book" in Cheboksary
"The Light of the Understanding of the Book" reading festivities dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of creation of the Slavic alphabet and to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture is happening from 21st to 25th of May 2013, at the National Library of the Chuvash Republic.
On May 21, 2013, a demonstration "1150 Years of Slavic Alphabet" reviewing a history of the alphabet, the details of life and feats of Cyril and Methodius, the stages of development of Russian culture and literacy, and getting the sightseers acquainted with the greatest pieces of ancient literature and the examples of old books printed in Cyrillic. Daily, until May 31, all the visitors of the exhibition can see the "Day of Slavic Writing and Culture" presentation, and the movies "Cyril and Methodius" and "Slavic alphabet." Numerous exposed books are also examined in the prepared by the library’s Department of Rare and Valuable Editions "Day of Slavic Writing and Culture" virtual exhibition, posted on the library’s website.
Against the background of the exhibition dedicated to the holiday the survey hours will be held daily for the groups of users. The major events of the holiday will happen directly on May 24th, at the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. The "Sts. Cyril and Methodius" traditional Hour of Orthodoxy will be prepared by department of humanities.
On the same day there will be the "Through the Centuries Carrying Light..." Information Day, prepared by the Department of bibliographic information. Particular attention will be paid to the dictionaries of the Russian language.
The holiday will be ended on May 25, 2013, by virtual tours to Europe, that officially selebrate the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. The Department of World Languages’ Literature staff will show and tell an audience about how this day is celebrated in other Slavic states, will present the department’s resources and the exposition of the Hall of National Cultures.
