To the International Museum Day: The Exhibition of Recent Acquisitions of State Historical Museum

On the occasion of the International Day of Museums State Historical Museum (Moscow) has prepared an exhibition of recent acquisitions, which will open May 18, 2013.

The acquired exhibits are displayed at the respective epochs’ halls; among the displays - the monuments of XVII - XXI centuries, which differ in the historical and artistic value.

The exhibition features: 2012 made by the city of Zlatoust’s masters sword, with depicted over a blade onset scenes of Russian and French cavalry, the observation posts of Kutuzov and Napoleon, and the medal "In Memory of the Grate Patriotic War of 1812"; an inkstand with a girl’s figure - an early sample of Russian Bronze Plastic Arts, 1820s; a statuette of a girl in the image of which is guessed Pisa female resident, so popular in Western European applied art of the time; an inkstand and a candelabra of 1886; the portrait of Major General S. E. Grekov by unknown author, belonging to the second quarter of the XIX century.

Besides the mentioned pieces the unique documents are showed as well - Tsar’s Alexei Mikhailovich Letter of Grant to a nobleman Semen Zaharievich Dashkov on ancestral lands in Galitsky and Aleksinsky Counties’ estates in 1672, right after the Russian-Polish war, which he participated; Nicholas Muhanov’s patent to the rank of lieutenant of Cavalry Life Guards from 1788, signed by the Empress Catherine the Secind, and the regimental commander General I. Michelson.

You can also see a set of 13 silver medals " On the occasion of well-known events of 1812, 1813, 1814 years” at the show. Medal models are made by the St. Petersburg based sculptor A. A. Arkhipov, built according the project of A. N. Olenin (1763-1843) and molded by St. Petersburg Mint on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War of 1812.
