For the record:

The Pushkin Regional Universal Scientific Library of Tambov is the direct heir and successor of two old libraries - Tambov Public library and Naryshkin library. The public library was founded in 1830, and opened to readers in 1833. The library was one of the few provincial libraries, which remained in service since its opening.

In the early years the library was housed in the rooms of the governor. In 1844, the construction of the own building of the Public Library was completed. With the establishment of Soviet power in 1918, it moved to Naryshkin Reading Room. In 1928, due to the liquidation of the Tambov Province, the library becomes lower in its rank - the central city library. In March 1937, upon the decision of the city executive committee it is given the name of Alexander Pushkin. In autumn of the same year, when the Tambov region was formed, it becomes the regional library.

May 29, 1979, a new building of the library opened. In 2006, the decision to start reconstruction was taken.

Today the library has a new appearance. All the utilities have been completely replaced. Modern air conditioning and ventilation equipment provide the statutory conditions of storage and security of literary monuments. The system of targeted delivery of documents connects the library’s repository with all the reading rooms. The library has open access to the Internet via wireless technology Wi-Fi. This service can be used by up to 255 visitors to the library simultaneously. The rooms are equipped with comfortable individual workstations.

During the six years of renovation the library not only did not close, but acquired and created new information resources. There has been created the Tambov regional centre of access to the information resources of the Presidential Library. About 2,000 unique rare books and local history publications have been digitized. The library’s specialists created and made available through the Internet, "Digital Library of the Tambov Region." The website of the institution has been recognized as a model for cultural institutions of the national level.
