History and culture: “Architectural graphic arts of Western Europe in the 17th – 19th centuries” in Peterhof
From April 30 to August 1, 2013, in the Mirror Hall of the Museum of the Benois family (Peterhof), are displayed the works of Western European architectural graphic arts from the collection of Leonti Benois, which is part of the holdings of the "Peterhof" State Museum Reserve.
Architect of the Imperial Court, academician of architecture, graphic artist, teacher, Leonti Benois (1856-1928) is also known as a collector of Western European graphic arts of the 17th – 19th centuries. As rector of the Academy of Arts, he used these prints as teaching illustrations.
Over time, this collection, which reflected the history of development of printmaking in Western Europe in the 17th – 19th centuries, has itself become an artistic value.
The exhibition presents architectural and landscape works by the Italian artist and engraver, Giuseppe Zocchi; the Austrian painter and graphic artist, Luigi Loire; the French artist, engraver and miniaturist Jean Cottel junior.
