World culture: In Mexico, archaeologists have discovered the ancient Mayan texts

An important archaeological discovery, which will expand the knowledge of the ancient culture of the Mayan people, was made by the researchers in Mexico in the south-eastern state of Campeche. As a result of the excavation they found in the ancient town Chaktun 19 stele, which were created in the period from 600 to 900 A.D.

According to the representatives of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (NIAH) on the three discovered stele have been preserved inscriptions made ​​in the distant past of the native inhabitants of the city. The height of ancient structures is two to three meters, and their weight is one ton.

Near some stele during the excavation were found pottery shards, which the population of Chaktuna brought a sacrifice to the implementation of the ritual of pilgrimage. On one of the stele are discovered writings, showing the creation of the built in 731.

The number of detected stele, according to scientists, speaks of the great importance for the ancient Mayan city of Chaktun, which, according to preliminary data, occupied an area of ​​over 22 hectares. In the area of ​​excavation, archaeologists have also found about 20 altars that people used “for offerings of gifts” to the spiritual patron of the ancient inhabitants of the city.
