Information technology and science: The MinComSvyaz to launch program of the state support in the field of information technology

The Ministry of Communications and Mass Media together with the Ministry of Education plans for five years to fund the creation in Russia of 50 research centers in the field of information technology. This was announced today at a discussion at the Saint-Petersburg International Economic Forum by the deputy head of the Ministry of Communications, Mark Shmulevich, who oversees the department of information technology.

“Now we have launched a program to create RnD centers, together with the Ministry of Education we plan that up to 50 such centers in the direction of IT can be created in the next five years, particularly at the end of this year by 5 - 7 (Research) the competition will be open”, - said Shmulevich.

The program, which has already been approved by the government, will maintain separate research centers and groups in breakthrough areas of information technology in the federal program for the development of scientific personnel of the Ministry of Education.

Shmulevich said that the research centers will be established on the basis of Russian institutions of higher education or research institutes. The emphasis will be placed on applied research.
