The second stage of the Swiss-Russian research expedition “Trans-Eurasia flight Leman - Lake Baikal” was launched in Pskov on June 18. One of the organizers of the project is the Russian Geographical Society.

Ultra light trikes have already been tried and tested in Switzerland, now the integrated scientific research with the help of ultra-light aircraft will be on the territory of Russia. The aim of the expedition is the study the Lake Baikal, the Selenga River delta and the Baikal region.

The Russian and French pilots take part on flights. Ultra light trikes can explore the surface with more, compared with the satellites, accuracy.

One of the leaders of the project, the first vice-president of the Geographical Society, a member of the Federation Council Artur Chilingarov said that in case of success of the Baikal expedition, the project may include other regions of Russia.

“It’s a risky project; it requires a lot of effort, time and money. But this project is unique, and the possibilities of trikes are now undervalued. The project is carried out in the years 2013-15, if this year all goes well, we plan to expand. For example, in 2014 it can be covered Tuva”, - told Chilingarov at a press conference dedicated to the Russian stage of the expedition.
