Exhibitions: The exposition “The Best Photographs of the Arctic” in Surgut

From June 11 to August 31, 2013 at the Cultural and Communication center of the Surgut Local Lore Museum opened the exhibition “The Best Photos of the Arctic”.

The exhibition presents works of the I International Contest of northern and arctic pictures “Global Arctic Awards – 2012”, which was attended by the best northern and arctic photographers from 28 countries.

The exhibition aims to show the multifaceted and diverse lives of the North and the Arctic region, its history, culture, way of life and the centuries-old traditions of Indigenous Peoples, a wealth of wildlife and nature around us, and to draw attention to environmental issues of the Arctic. The motto of the contest was “Photographers of the world - for the pure Arctic”.

The organizers of the contest and exhibition projects are the Yamal photographer Sergey Anisimov and the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District. The general partner of the project is a popular science and geographic magazine “National Geographic RUSSIA”. UNESCO, WWF (World Wildlife Fund), IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) and others are among the partners. Since 2013, the project has been joined with the Russian Geographical Society.
